Deaf and deafblind clients are as likely to be neurodivergent as the wider population, yet neurodiversity is often under-recognised or misunderstood in interpreting and communication support contexts.

  • Better access to communication and participation.

  • Reduced frustration and miscommunication.

  • Healthier working relationships and wellbeing for both clients and professionals.

  • Alignment with inclusive practice standards.

Overview

Following the success of our previous LiteBites CPD programmes, we are delivering a new six-part CPD series focused on neurodiversity designed specifically for Lipspeakers, BSL Interpreters, Notetakers, Speech-to-Text Reporters (STTRs), and other communication support professionals.

The aim is to strengthen understanding of neurodiversity within the context of deaf communication support, helping practitioners build more inclusive, flexible, and person-centred approaches across the wide range of environments they work in.

Purpose and Learning Goals

By the end of the series, participants will:

  • Develop a confident understanding of what neurodiversity means and how it presents in real-world communication contexts.

  • Recognise the intersection between deafness and neurodivergence, and the unique access challenges this can create.

  • Learn practical strategies for adapting communication support to suit diverse sensory, cognitive, and processing needs.

  • Reflect on personal practice and develop inclusive habits that enhance accessibility and wellbeing for both clients and professionals
